CoP Purpose and Mandate

Purpose

The Social Protection COP develops community participants’ capabilities in social protection. This CoP exists to drive learning and provide a space for knowledge stewarding, mentorship, training, and problem solving.

Mandate & Functions

The Social Protection CoP is an informal group that builds a community around social protection.
This CoP will:
- Help members to improve our understanding of social protection and develop capabilities around social protection.
- Exchange and advance knowledge, insights, best practices, and tools
- Support the dissemination of social protection resources through a curated resource collection, webinars, and dialogue/discussions, etc. within the CoP (and with other key groups)
- Provide opportunities for country, region, and member staff to discuss and problem solve challenges around the implementation of, and learning about, social protection.
- Facilitating peer-to-peer technical support and learning by providing a place for brainstorming and linking idea generation and problem solving with new or different ways of thinking
- Supporting professional development through sharing of resources and opportunities in line with technical competencies.
- Responding to queries from members of the CoP

Roles & Composition

This CoP is a self-formed group led by an appointed Committee. The Committee is responsible for driving the CoP forward. They are both the owner and custodian of the CoP’s objectives and have sufficient power and influence within the community itself in order to help bring together the community and provide the right level of guidance and technical expertise.

The CoP’s broadest set of constituents are its General Membership: a community of individuals who are interested in learning more about social protection. General membership will include any one from the different ITP cohorts, organisations implementing social protection programmes. There is no limit to the size of the General Membership pool, and any and all interested individuals are welcome to join this CoP.

Accountability

CoP Committee members are informally accountable to their members. There will be no formal line of accountability to a higher-level governance body. Through the process of developing this ToR, this CoP has outlined its accountabilities and built a culture of mutual accountability amongst the CoP.
CoP Roles and Composition

Meetings & Organization

This CoP will have engagements scheduled every last Friday of the month.
This CoP will have a dedicated Workplace Group to host and maintain regular discussions and share ideas, questions and resources – this can be accessed via: upfsp.org/socialprotectionCOP
There is no formal term limit or timeframe for this CoP as it is meant to serve as an informal community for participants; it will exist insofar as there is sufficient interest from participants and the CoP maintains a plan to hold a minimum of ~4 “activities” a year (examples of "activities" include communications, webinars, events, discussions, etc.).
